Welcome!
The work of the Pediatric Child and Adolescent Lab (PCAP), focuses on efforts primarily with youth of color from disadvantaged backgrounds, as these youth are often most in need of high-quality mental health support but also the least likely to receive these services. Our research has been conducted in various settings (school- and community-based), and through various modalities (in-person and via mental health technology platforms). Our primary interests and research concentrations include: (1) promotion of behavioral and mental health in schools, (2) understanding the impacts for youth exposed to trauma, (3) how technology platforms can support the mental health needs of youth, and (4) effective collaboration and leadership in school mental health.
(1) Our lab is interested in implementing innovative evidence-based psychosocial interventions for high-risk children displaying emotional, behavioral, and/or social problems. As part of this research, we seek to further understand and elucidate those factors associated with resiliency and positive adjustment within this population.
(2) Our lab seeks to better understand the nuances around exposure to trauma and subsequent outcomes.
(3) Telehealth and technology innovations and how these modalities can impact the practice of psychology are an area of interest for the lab. In alignment with our research focus on underprivileged youth, especially youth of color from disadvantaged backgrounds, our team engages in research projects that evaluate mental health technology platforms and issues of inclusivity. We also study how professionals in schools can use these platforms to improve access to mental health care for diverse youth populations, and we partner with community leaders to better understand how mobile health solutions can best support youth living in urban neighborhoods.
(4) Interdisciplinary collaboration and effective leadership in schools is another area of emphasis.
